Notifications in file notes
The best way to describe this would be to do it similar to facebook when someone comments on something I posted or comments after I have commented.

Possibly an email notification or inbox dashboard in the Dokmee system, possibly both.

An inbox in Dokmee would be very useful and can be used across multiple modules, notes, notifications, retention, workflow. As you mentioned it could be even called a dashboard.
